Maxwell’s Bookshop
Bakewell – 9 Orme Court, Granby Rd, Bakewell DE45 1ES
Its our lovley local independent and we love popping in on the way to Eliza’s swimming club. Its also right next to Bakewell Library so if you dont find it there you can always check out the library. Bakewell has has 3 local indepenedents to check out along with lots of charity shops for some cheaper finds.
Selling a range of discounted new books and stocks gifts and crafting items. Tucked away on a side alley, it’s worth a browse, particularly if you’re looking for a bargain.
If you need any advice they are always happy to help, lovley friendly shop.
Hawkridge Books

This antiquarian bookshop is fab to go in and have a look whats instore. Theres lots of books waiting to be found and you could easily lose your self for a good hour if you dont have the kids in tow!
The kids section is smaller but some stunning books and a few memeories for me when we pop in.
A great place to find some amazing and beautiful books, while bringing back some memories or looking for something super special.
Scarthin Books – Cromford

This favourite bookshop stands proudly by the village pond, housing floors of books across multiple levels. With new titles, secondhand books, and an impressive local history selection, it’s a real treat.

Scarthin Books also has a vegan and vegetarian cafe, making it the ideal place to relax with a coffee and a book. The friendly staff is always on hand to offer recommendations and help you discover hidden gems.

Such beautiful book store to spend time in. It opened in 2024 but is already so well loved.
There tag line is Affordable, brilliant books, all new and for less than £5!

Situated just outside Buxton, High Peak Bookstore is one of Derbyshire’s best and well-known independent bookshops. It offers half-price new books, making it a great deal for bargain hunters.

The on-site vegetarian café is a huge draw, serving delicious brunch options while book lovers browse.

One of Derbyshire’s newest bookshops, Dormouse Books, was founded by author and poet Stephanie Limb and experienced retailer Tracy Beardmore. Located on Main Street in the heart of Belper’s award-winning high street, this beautiful bookshop is committed to inspiring young readers with a fantastic book selection of contemporary fiction, nonfiction, poetry and children’s books. It’s a great day for little readers to visit.
Dormouse Books doesn’t just sell books – it actively supports local writers and local history by stocking titles from Derbyshire authors. They also host science fiction discussions, storytelling sessions, and culture trip events.
