When it comes to delicious ice creams, Derbyshire produces some of the best, from Italian-style gelato to plant-based with the finest ingredients. Some fabulous dairies have even opened their doors for you to come in and spend the day with play frames and animals to pet, and there is no fun.

1. Bluebell Dairy
Plant-based options alongside artisan ice cream and sorbet

- Details: Family-run ice cream farm with award-winning flavours, a farm park, and tearooms.
- Public Transport: We did it by train to Spondon and then a taxi for 5 minutes or a 40-minute walk. Part of this walk doesn’t have pavement, so it’s not great if you have a buggy.
With three generations of ice cream knowledge, over 30 ice cream flavours, and the highest-quality ingredients, you won’t be disappointed. You don’t have to pay to go into the Bluebell Dairy if it’s just the ice cream you are after. You can access a small indoor seated area with an ice cream counter when looking for your next ice cream hit.

2. Tagg Lane Dairy

- Details: Produces artisan Jersey ice cream, gourmet coffee, and luxury milkshakes.
Based in the heart of the Peak District and famous for the most amazing Italian style gelato, this is a favourite with my kids for after school. They promise the most fantastic gelato with all-natural ingredients and a flavour for everyone. I keep saying I haven’t found mine, so we can keep going back and tasting more! If you fancy dropping in on foot, it’s only a stone’s throw away from the High Peak Trail.
There is lots of outdoor seating and a cafe where you can take a break to grab an ice cream. This is a must-visit destination on any road trip!
You can also pick up some fantastic creamy milk from their Jersy cows.
They also have a caravaning site. Could a location for carving be better than an ice cream farm?
3. Matlock Meadows Ice Cream Farm

- Details: The Masson farm is a working dairy farm run by the Dakin family. The website says the ice cream parlour is closed to the public but we will keep checking for the latest news.
You can also grab their delicious ice cream at the Chatsworth Estate when you visit the Farmyard and Playground. There is lots of outdoor seating to enjoy your waffle cone if the kids sit still long enough.
Raspberry ripple and salted caramel are excellent!
4. Hope Valley Ice Cream (Thorpe Farm)

- Details: The Marsden family farm produces ice cream from its own dairy cows on site. A fab farm shop and a small play area of a small sandpit and tractor to play on in the yard area. Kids can see the pigs and donkeys and baby calves or watch the cows walk themselves into the robotic milking bays. Dogs are welcome on the farm but on a lead.
5. Pomeroy Ice Cream

Details: Handmade artisan ice cream using milk from their own dairy cows. The Ice Cream shop is open every day from April until October 9am – 6.30pm. They sell cones, tubs, takeaway tubs, sundaes, and desserts with ice cream.
There are 14 ice cream flavours to choose from, and as they are on rotation, there will likely be something new to try every time you visit!
6. Daltons Dairy

- Details: Small-batch ice cream made with high-quality ingredients, the hatch opens back up in Spring.

7. Just-Ice Darley Abbey

- Details: Ethical ice cream shop using fair-trade ingredients, with flavours inspired by global recipes.Welcome to ‘The Hatch’ on the edge of Darley Park! We serve you ice cream made on the premises, waffles on sticks (gluten-free), milkshakes, and hot drinks. They are in the stable yard behind Darley Park Tearooms; keep your eyes out for purple flags.
8. Blaze Farm (Hilly Billy Ice Cream)

- Details: Family-run farm producing delicious homemade Derbyshire ice cream with some great walking trails and farm animals just on the edge of the Peak District.
9. The Apple Tree Tea House

- Details: A beautiful tea room serving locally made ice creams and homemade desserts. Stop by for an Instagram-worthy ice cream that tastes as good as it looks!
10. The Little Shed

- Details: Pop-up ice cream counter in summer featuring artisan whipped Jersey ice cream.
11. Fredericks at Queen’s Park
- Address: Queen’s Park, Boythorpe Road, Chesterfield, S40 2ND

- Details: Long-standing family business offering high-quality ice creams right by the kid’s play area. It’s a lovely stop and well worth avoiding the ice cream van in the park to drop in here.
