If you’re hunting the best family-friendly fireworks and organised bonfire night events across Derbyshire and the East Midlands (without trawling a hundred Facebook posts), this is the one to bookmark. We’ve rounded up a rich programme of entertainment: gentler children’s displays, big grand finale firework displays, fun fairs, seasonal food (hello hog roasts, jacket potatoes, homemade soup, delicious hot chocolate, and sweet treats), plus handy tips on ticket prices, parking and what to bring.

Chatsworth House – Bonfire & Fireworks (with Seasonal Supper Option)

Where: Chatsworth, Bakewell, DE45 1PP

Why go: A blazing bonfire night Derbyshire listing, family entertainment, and two spectacular fireworks displays, including an earlier, gentler display designed for your youngest visitors. It’s set in the formal gardens with lovely views of the fireworks from the South Lawn and Stables courtyard nearby. There’s a paid seasonal two-course meal add-on in the Cavendish Restaurant (yes, gluten-free options available; always mention any gluten-free requirements when booking). 

Food & extras: Expect a selection of seasonal food (think hog roasts, churros, sweet stall, hot drinks, soft drinks, maybe ice cream if the evening is mild). Pre-booked dining at the Cavendish Restaurant sits just off the Stables courtyard; it’s a lovely treat before the dazzling display.

Top tip: For the best seats (standing spots!) for little ones, arrive early and pick firm ground; the lawns can get soft. Derby – Fireworks Night & Fun Fair (Derbyshire County Cricket Club)

Where: Central Co-op County Ground, Nottingham Rd, Derby, DE21 6DA

When: Sat 8 Nov 2025

Tickets: Advance adult tickets £15; juniors £5; family ticket £35; group discounts (6+ adults) available; car park £10. Advance tickets advised.

Why go: It’s Derby’s biggest fireworks event with family entertainment, fairground rides, and tons of food & drink at the cricket ground. Perfect “big night out” with a huge grand finale firework display. 

Top tip: Wrap up, bring ear defenders for little ones who dislike loud fireworks, and aim for an early arrival to snag parking. (FYI: Tickets/hospitality pages may use third party provider/industry standard technologies—cookies, clear gifs, etc.—so set your cookie preferences as needed.) 

Derby RFC – Community Fireworks (Great Value)

Where: Haslams Lane, Darley Abbey, Derby, DE22 1EB

When: Fri 7 Nov 2025 (gates 5:30pm)

Tickets: Adult £6.50, Kids £3.50, Family ticket £17.50.

Why go: Classic club night with hot dogs, bars, hot drinks, glow stall, and a big dazzling display—all at friendly prices. 

Top tip: Limited on-site parking; bring cash for food to beat queues.

Midland Railway – Butterley: Two-Night Fireworks Spectacular

Where: Butterley Station, Butterley Row, Ripley, DE5 3QZ

When: Fri 31 Oct & Sat 1 Nov 2025 (fireworks 7:30pm both nights)

Tickets: Adults £14.95; Children (5–16) £1; Under-5s free.

Why go: A proper heritage fireworks event with railway magic—great for little train fans. Expect fair rides, classic snack stalls and a brilliant grand finale. 

Top tip: Layer up—platforms get chilly. Check accessible parking and platform access if bringing buggies or wheelchairs.

Matlock RFC – Cromford Meadows Bonfire & Fireworks

Where: Matlock Rugby Club, Cromford Meadows, off Mill Rd, Cromford, Matlock DE4 3RQ

When: Sat 8 Nov 2025 (bonfire night Derbyshire ~6:30pm; children’s firework display 7pm; main display 7:45pm; live music after)

Why go: Huge community night at Cromford Meadows with a dedicated children’s display, then a synced musical main show. Expect hearty food, sweet treats, and a good time. 

Top tip: Field = grass; wear boots for firm ground. Follow the organisers’ privacy policy updates and check for weather notes if high winds are forecast.

Eyam – “Burn the Rat” Bonfire Night (Legendary Village Tradition)

Where: Eyam (procession from the square to Hawkhill/playing fields)

When: Sat 8 Nov 2025 (entertainment from 5:30pm; procession 6:15pm)

Tickets: Typically sold locally (Adults £8–10; Children £4–5; under-2s free).

Why go: The famous burning of the legendary Eyam Rat—a giant woven willow rat carried in a torch-lit procession—honours Eyam’s plague story before a fabulous bonfire night Derbyshire evening and fireworks display. Funds support Eyam Primary (great for the local community/local charities). Expect delicious locally-sourced food: farmhouse sausage hot dogs, jacket potato feast (chilli, beans & cheese), winter vegetable soup, parkin, bonfire toffee, mulled wine, and more. 

Top tip: Bring cash; many stalls are run by volunteers. Arrive early for the procession—kids love chanting “Burn the rat!”

The Whitworth puts on a fab event with two firework displays: a low-noise show for children early in the evening, and the main high-impact display later on. Add in fairground rides, music, and plenty of food stalls and you’ve got a fab family night out.

Matlock Bath Illuminations (No Fireworks—But Fab Lights & Boats)

Where: Derwent Gardens, Matlock Bath

When: Season runs to 26 Oct 2025 (selected nights)

Why go: While not a bonfire night, the illuminated parade of decorated boats along the Derwent is magical for younger kids (minimal bangs, lots of glow).

Top tip: Take snacks and flasks; riverside evenings feel colder.
