The Pott Family’s farming legacy spans three generations, with roots firmly planted in the local soil. It all began in 1963 when Grandad began starting his own farm after relocating from Staffordshire to the nearby area.
Fast forward to September 1984, a pivotal moment arrived when the family acquired a 34-acre field, the very site where Watergo Farm stands today. Initially, the land served as a vital source of cereal crops to nourish the farm’s animals, a role that has since expanded to encompass over 500 acres of farmland.
Throughout the years, Watergo Farm has been home to diverse livestock, including dairy and beef cows, pigs, sheep, and poultry. However, it was during a casual conversation around the kitchen table, the heart of all farming deliberations, that a new direction emerged. The family collectively decided to transition towards free-range egg production.
You have to try their most famous farm shop ice cream. My favourite is the luxury ice cream with rum and raisins; the kids always go strawberry. It’s definitely a favourite place to stop by when in the area.
In 2007, the designated field was transformed into a lush grassland, providing the perfect haven for the hens. The first flock of 12,000 feathered residents arrived, now free to roam the verdant pastures or seek shelter within the confines of their cosy shed whenever they please.
